I saw this at the AXPONA 2024. They looked amazing and sounded good as far as I can tell in the noisy audio show environment. Since I'm a tactile person and also give priority on touch and finish, I was surprised that the controls felt loose/cheap (the controls actually wiggled around on more than one of the units) which did not match the look of the units. Maybe if the user only uses the remote control, they wouldn't care about this. But I often go up to my turntable and then adjust the volume knob, it would bother me. I mentioned this to the company representatives, and they said that they will take the feedback to their company folks.

The subwoofers I'm using now are thrift store salvage in sealed home made boxes with plenty of teddy bear fluff running on cheap chinese class D subwoofer amps. Salvaged two 8" Pioneer Andrew Jones and a 12" Bic F12. I'm satisfied.

Who actually still has cassettes? I wonder if I have any still around? They are not the most practical format.

I'll take a look at the SMSL M300SE. For that price, it looks good. I have a Modi 3 and as much as I like the sound quality, I was let down by Schiit customer care and the quality of the DAC. This $100 DAC cost me an extra $30 having to send it back twice for a faulty motherboard.

No offense this review was not very good. The language was not specific and the talking points were all over the place. Are you saying that the evolution is chocolate and the ultra is carrot cake and they are totally different, how so.? Are you saying that the ultra is does not have good imaging, does not have wide soundstage, does not have a good dynamics or clarity transparency? As far as voicing and Tamber, matching the engineers say they Tamber match these speakers so that they can play well with other speakers in the lineup. Furthermore, the ultras I have, and they sound wonderful, transparent, great imaging, wide sound stage, and good dynamics. Nevertheless, these may have a slightly better Twitter and may have some improvements which is why they are evolutions and revolutions nary and sound.

Speaking of SU-1 DAC, I believe the Moondrop Dawn Pro is the ultimate price king at the moment if USB as a source is enough for you. 2 and 4v out, it runs both.

I use a Topping PA5 II plus and it drives my 2 different speakers to insane levels no problem If I had tons more money to spend I'd get the Topping B200 and run them with a decent pre-amp, but if you run the calculations it's not going to play things at much higher levels.

I just got a 1Mii Hi-Fi Bluetooth 5.3 Stereo Amplifier LDAC Hi-Res Wireless Receiver, and I payed £45 for it open box. I can't tell you how impressed with it I am. I just wanted to use an old Panasonic CD/dab unit to do it's thing and add Bluetooth in one unit to drive 2x 3 ohm JVC bookshelf speakers from and old music system, they sound great but the Pan unit doesn't have the power to run them properly. Enter the 1Mii. OMG, better everything. More than enough OOMMFF! to make a huge difference. I think we all know Chifi firms exaggerate their products power output, and as they say "If it looks too good to be true, it probably is" Well in this case, color me gobsmacked :)

I bought a set of these Sony speakers and the Neil Blanchard plans. I went for the ultimate crossover build,which included the subtle suggestion to put a small 0.1 Audyn bypass cap on the larger bypass cap and I did all the speaker cabinet mods.Too put it mildly these sound really good,I mean REALLY good. All I have for the power source is a Onkyo 80 watt per side reciever and a Wiim Pro Plus streamer all hooked up with ethernet cable and optic cables,I also have one of those cheap Sony subwoofers.All in all the system sounds very impressive. The mod to the speakers was not easy,but boy the results are very cool.Check it out.

5k Sugden A21SE or at 3k Sugden A21 (Both class a). 2k Buy a Decware Zen (single ended tube amp) and wait two years to be made and arrive from USA. Below that, at 1k buy a used Naim Nait 1 or 2. Below that at 549,- buy a Rega IO new. The Rega is very good, but not the most engaging, so better save up for an old NAIT. ... and no, it is not cheap, when you buy twice a month a new crappy amp, because it is the latest cheap sh*t.

Have been using an iFi Zen DAC V2 as a DAC and volume control with the XTZ Edge A-300 for amplification. A clean simple system.

Hi, do you have a list of tracks that you play on your channel ? Not just the test tracks you name but the tunes you play in the background when viewing gear etc. There is one track that i think could be Flaming Lips but would need confirmation. Love the channel but being in the UK some of the CHIFI isn't really available. Those sony speakers are near impossible too. However I have a mix of Wharfedale speakers, Onky and Cambridge Audio amps and Marantz cd so no need to be concerned. Would love to try them though, that cheap mono block looked great. They need to increase the inputs though. Obviously that would increase the price but it is a prime concern when I consider an amp. Take care dude, Corin x

My setup is DVD to HDMI to optical out on TV to Audio receiver, and finally to my ears. Is this a decent setup? I figure I’m using the DAC in my audio receiver which is probably better than the DAC in the DVD player..

Sometimes is the software that creates the problems. With my Topping, I have tried 10 variants of their model-specific drivers and only one is ok and is not the last one.

I had small bookshelf speakers that had the woofer (4-inch) and tweeters die on me. Like you, I substituted new 2-way German brand co-axial car speakers that I had on hand in place of the woofer. They don’t sound great but I use them as workshop speakers and they do a decent job.

FINALLY! I'm not alone in dislike of the Focal Theva's! I substantially regret having paid out for 4x No.3-D's, 1x Center and 2x Surround's. I feel deceived by the reviews. Claiming things were open in the midrange was complete BS. Upper midrange doesn't exist with these. I am intending to buy Dali Oberon 9 as fronts, Oberon 7 as Sides, Center as center, Surround as rear, Oberon 3 as front Atmos and Oberon 1 as side Atmos speakers. Just to try something else rather than live in my love of soundstage found in Martin Logan. But I do feel a bit ripped off by the reviews of the Theva's. Convinced me to pay out thousands just to feel let down.

Hardware control. I've been looking for a semi-full featured preamp, . I like knobs. I like visual feedback (even digi meters). I like switching sources. I like a mono button. Now, I use a mixer. 3 band eq. Simultaneous multiple sources. Great s/n (96k box). You can change the power amps (or config) cheaply. Buy better speakers. Power supplies matter. (i live in a small space)... Great episode!

I paid Amazon for a Pro-Ject RPM1.3 but they sent me an RPM1 Carbon. They did so 3 times (I always video record opening packages because of Amazon...) and all 3 times I paid for an RPM1.3 but each time they sent an (and 2 of 3 I returned) RPM1 Carbon instead. Because the Sumiko Pearl cartridge is generally rated so much higher than a majority of other Moving Magnet cartridges I was forced to buy one because Amazon refused to provide one for any discount even though they clearly scr*wed me over again and again. But you're reviewing both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges may hold some extreme value. I'm using Android to write this so I cannot scroll back to see what I've already written and ensure I didn't make errors. I "could" scroll back but text I had to touch to scroll upward would automatically be changed to nonsense because I touched a word (it will change 1 word or an entire paragraph because Android is a comedy of intentional errors)

I have decided to go with separates but am still very confused. Is there a list of what is minimum best start would be. I already have 2 passive focal speakers. Next I need a? Amp and Dac? PreAmp and Dac? I have a bunch of FLAC music I play on my computer and want to play it on a nice stereo. I want to build a system over time so just need to get started. Then I need pointed to a video that tells me how to play it from the Dac.

Quality of construction and materials does make a difference, but the point of diminishing returns is pretty low for audio cables. The give-away, in-the-box cables we get with new components are pretty crap. They carry a signal, and that's about it. Spending $10-15 for interconnects and $30-50 (more if they have to be pretty long) for speaker cables probably gets you 80-90% of what you can get for thousands of dollars. But like our host (or so it seems), I usually buy wire and connectors so I can make speakers cables just the right length. For cables that won't get changed out a lot -- most of them for most of us -- spades are better than banana plugs. That's assuming your binding posts are true 5-way posts.
